From the 4th of April until the 13th of July Scuderie del Quirinale will host “Global Baroque. The World in Rome in the Age of Bernini” an exhibition organized with Galleria Borghese and with the participation and collaboration of prestigious national and international institutions and museums. “Global Baroque” takes us on a journey through a cosmopolitan Rome, that was at the center of a complex network of travels and relationships that transcend national and cultural borders. Africa, America, Asia were visible presences in the Rome of this era; works of art by Baroque masters such as Gian Lorenzo Bernini, Pietro da Cortona, Nicolas Poussin, takes us into a surprisingly multi-ethnic and multicultural world, in which missionaries and diplomats put Japan in dialogue with Persia, Congo with the New World at the court of the Popes.
In the halls of Scuderie, all the art works will lead us, in different ways, to the discovery of this extraordinary story that speaks of transculturalism, globalization, intercontinental travels, cultural traditions, great protagonists and unexpected stories. Travelers, religious figures, ambassadors and artists arrive in Rome from all over the world with a baggage of knowledge and cultures of remarkable variety. Some of them will stop in Rome forever; others will resume their journey, taking with them the experience and signs of a city that knows how to combine the diversity of views on the world.
