The exhibition “Treasures of the Pharaohs” opening at Scuderie del Quirinale, will be an extraordinary journey into the heart of the ancient Egyptian civilization. The exhibition is going to be an unmissable opportunity to observe 130 masterpieces from the most important museums of Egypt. The pieces displayed will give the public the chance to discover this incredible story: from the origins of the Pharaonic civilization to the glory of the great rulers of the New Kingdom and the Third Intermediate Period, up to the most significant archaeological discoveries of the recent years.
Through six thematic sections, the exhibition explores the complexity of the Egyptian society, the divine authority of the pharaohs, their daily life, the religious beliefs, the funerary practices and the most recent archaeological discoveries. From the spectacular statues of Sennefer, Ramses VI and Thutmose III to the exquisite royal jewels, from finely crafted everyday objects to sarcophagi decorated with sacred symbols, the exhibition reveals the exceptional artistic sophistication and profound spirituality that made ancient Egypt one of the most fascinating civilizations in history.
“Treasures of the Pharaohs” is the result of an important cultural diplomacy initiative between Italy and Egypt. This collaboration has made possible the extraordinary loan of masterpieces from some of the most important Egyptian museums, including the Egyptian Museum in Cairo and the Luxor Museum. Many of these art works will be shown in Italy for the first time. Moreover, the exhibition sees a prestigious collaboration with the Egyptian Museum of Turin which signs important contributions and an exceptional loan.
The exhibition, curated by Dr. Tarek El Awady, will be accompanied by a catalogue edited by Dr. Zahi Hawass and published by Allemandi Editore.
